My Story
Well where do I begin…
I was in my junior year of college when I met a strikingly handsome guy at a party. We were introduced through mutual friends and the party was at his house. Everything was going along so well (it may have helped along by the alcohol). Then this strikingly handsome guy tells me… he’s in the Navy.
I thought, “well, whatever, he’s got a great party house and it’s not like we’re going to get married.”
—record scratch— 3 and half years later…
yep that happened.
and then 15 months after that, this happened.
This blog not only serves as my outlet for maintaining the chaotic balance as a new parent, working mom, and a military spouse but it offers tips, advice, and a bit of humor.
Aloha!!
I saw that you posted your blog on our FB fan page, I quickly scanned your blog post about PCSing, and I wanted to ask if you’d be interested in trading Buttons, or even Guest blogging for us! Check out our site, the Blog portion of it has not gone “Live” yet, but HMW has been around for ten years, and I, myself, have been here in Hawaii for 11 years! I sure look forward to hearing from you, have a Wonderful Easter weekend!!
Oops! I meant that as a message, not a comment! 😉 Feel free to keep it to yourself!
Hi…just stopping by and checking out your blog. Love to see more military spouse blogs. 🙂

Love it! thank you! I’m checking out yours as well!
I’m just an appreciative reader! I love reading all of your stories, posts, and experiences. I actually have found it very difficult to find the perspective of someone who is young. I am a junior in college, dating an Army soldier who just joined the Army quite recently. I really love what you have to say because I feel like it is the most relevant to me. Keep on keepin’ on!
Hi Kayla,
Thanks for stopping by and checking out the blog. Love the kind words! Keep in touch! -JD
I loved your blog on Girlfriends, My boyfriend is signing his Army contract today. I am very worried about us of course as where ever he gets based i will not be able to be there because of school but as soon as i graduate in may hopefully that will change his is my best friend on this earth and has been for a very long time. The being of your post meant a lot thank you 🙂
Of course! glad I could help! thank you for the kind comment. -JD
Hi JD… I’ve come across your posts a couple of times and I thought I finally leave a comment. I’m a young Navy Girlfriend. He’s been in for about a year… but we’ve been dating for 4 years (met in high school). I’m starting my junior year in college. I think your writing is great, and I love what you have to say!
Oh wow! Thank you for the kind words! Keep in touch!
I stumbled onto your site when I was browsing Pinterest. I recently began a relationship with a Coast Guardsman and I have to say, it was relief to be able to find someone’s first hand experience on military relationships and to see what other people were saying. It’s reassuring because I didn’t know how to handle the expedient nature of the relationship and the distance at first but it feels good to find posts like yours. You’re a fantastic writer. Thank you for this and thanks to your husband for his service. God bless.
What kind words, thank you so much!
Hi! I’m new here. Just came across your things on Pinterest. I’m new at being a military girlfriend, so it’d be great if you could point to a post about things I need to know and stuff like that. He’s in the Army Reserve, we’re both 19 and just trying to get through his now Advanced training with a almost 3 hour time difference and we’ve been talking about marriage. As I’m sure, most would freak out about marrying this young and I kinda am but this life I’ve committed to because well it’s HIM, ya know? We’re not engaged but we might be soon? This life just makes us want to have the commitment right away instead of waiting. We’ve been high school sweethearts for a little over 2 years now and I’ve tried my best to support his decision and stay strong. I feel like I could be doing a better job if I knew what the hell he’s talking about sometimes! haha
haha! yes we were all new at some point. Me and two of my milspouse friend created an ebook just for new military significant others and wives. This give you tips and extras like printables and definitions. Check it out! https://www.semidelicatebalance.com/modern-military-spouse
Okay I just read your bio! I love you!! We have similar stories – well at least similar paces in our stories! I focus a lot on balance as well! You just got another fan! Thank you!
thank you!
Hi,

Hi. Great story. I cannot imagine what it is like to have a spouse in the military. I love your care package ideas. I have a question. I am interested in starting my own eCommerce business, where I will have items that all deployed men & women need. I do all the work (shipping etc..) What do you think of this idea? Is there a need for it? Thanks.
Hmm, there might be a business need there. It’s hard to get a list of deployed service members though due to OPSEC.
I enjoy reading about military married couples. And I want to say thank you for your service!!!
Hi there! I am not sure if you are still maintaining this site, but I wanted to thank you for the post about your spouse making Navy Chief. It was refreshing to hear how you did the season as a girlfriend and it made me feel a lot better realizing it was normal to not know anything and all the feelings I have someone else also had. I needed the multiple laughs and smiles your post provided! This first week has brought about a lot of the “just the girlfriend” feels and couple comparisons so stumbling across your post as I was trying to find out more about this experience and how I can help my SO was a godsend. I just wanted to say thank you and let you know the positive impact through your blog is still being felt!
thanks so much!
