While pregnancy is a very happy time for expectant couples, it can also be a time of stress and anxiety. You think about all of the things you need to do to prepare before baby, during delivery, and once the baby arrives. With any pregnancy, expectant mommies can feel anxious about their little ones growing inside of them. You wonder if anything you touch, do, or think, can impact your unborn child.
Rest at ease, mom. If you can help it, try to ease your anxiety with the following tips.
Don’t use pregnancy as a crutch
You worry about all of the bad things that can happen to you or your baby during pregnancy. I understand completely. However, this shouldn’t limit you from doing things that make you happy. Ask your doctor if it’s ok to run that 10K or do some hiking. Babies have been born for thousands of years now. Trust your body, your instinct, and your medical professional’s advice.
Focus on the positives
Remind yourself of all the good in your life and the blessing you are about to receive. There’s no limit on happiness so think about all of the positives in your life.
Try to stay healthy
This means a balanced diet (with some wiggle room for cravings). No smoking or drinking. Regular prenatal visits and daily vitamins, and of course, exercising. If it’s possible, try to get as much sleep as you can.
Meditate
Meditation is not meant to be difficult or formal. Find a quiet place, sit or lay down, and clear your mind. I find it helps to dim the room or put on relaxing music.
Accept that some things are out of your control.
Moms can do their best to control everything but something are just inevitable. Focus on staying healthy. Don’t go insane thinking about the “what ifs”. Avoid blaming yourself for anything.
We all try our best and that’s all we can do.
