5 Tips for a Better Selfie (5)

In the past, I didn’t really like taking selfies. I’m a little camera shy if you can believe it. But then when my husband deployed, he would frequently ask for selfies. I would send him pictures of our son, but he said he would like to see pictures of me. So with no one around, I had to bite the bullet and learn how to take a good selfie. Here are some tips I have learned.

1) It’s all about Lighting

5 Tips For a Better Selfie

When it comes to taking a selfie, the right lighting is key. Ideally, you’ll want to take the picture in natural light. Sunrise and sunsets are perfect if you’re outdoors because the lighting isn’t too harsh or too dark. If you’re indoors, find the brightest window. The best method is to turn towards your light source. This allows the light to reflect on you and illuminate your face. If you are taking a selfie at night, face a lamp instead. Oh, and don’t ever use the flash. It’s not as flattering.

2) Try to Avoid Selfie Cliches

This means gang signs, duck faces, peace signs, etc. Or have you seen the selfies where people are pretending to be sleeping?  A little silly, don’t ya think?! You are beautiful as you are. Makeup or no makeup. Who needs a glam squad when you have a beautiful smile. Speaking of smiles…

3) Smile!

Be silly, but be you. Loosen up and relax. A genuine smile almost never looks bad. A great selfie is an awesome selfie.  Having a great smile means taking care of your smile. Colgate® Optic White® Express White Toothpaste contains the professionally recommended ingredient hydrogen peroxide to whiten faster.Colgate® Optic White® Express White actually has 2 times more of the professionally recommended whitening ingredient (vs. Optic White Sparkling Mint TP). What this means for busy women is that you can get whiter teeth in just 3 days, just by brushing*. I found Colgate® Optic White® Express White at Walmart, right next to all my favorite Colgate® toothpastes.

4) Background check

Make sure your room is picked up. Look out for any potential photo bombers. If you’re taking the selfie in the bathroom, make sure the toilet seat is down any watch out for any other potential embarrassing items. If there’s not a pretty backdrop, a neutral wall will work just as well. Crop if you must.

5) Strike a pose

Find your best angle. It could be straight on, but most people look good at somewhat of an angled or tilted profile. Also, position the camera where it’s a little above eye level. this helps to get rid of any double chin. Take multiple pictures of different angles to see what works for you
