Summer is here and PCS season in in full effect. People are coming. People are going. People are packing. People are waiting. Before the movers get to your house, prepare your “Do not pack” room.
I’ve given you PCS moving tips before.This is a list for the items that go in that “Do Not Pack” pile. During the stress of moving, you can easily forget something or not even think to bring it. Then when you arrive at your new house (or hotel), you find out the your HHG (Household Goods) will take weeks to arrive. Here is a handy dandy list of what items should travel with you to your new destination.
- Sheets
- Blankets
- Pillows
- Air Mattress
- A few pots and pans
- Cooking Utensils (I also recommend a can opener)
- Small kitchen appliances (My go-tos are a crock pot, coffee pot, and rice cooker)
- Basic spices
- Towels
- One week’s worth of clothes for each family member
- Toiletries for each family member
- Personal grooming supplies

- Valuable Jewelry
- Important papers and documents
- Wifi Router (I can’t live without internet, I don’t know if you can)
- Pack and play if you have little ones
- Pet food dishes and supplies
- First aid kit
- Medicines/Important medication
- Laptops/Tablets/MP3 players
- Chargers (if you’re staying in hotels, I personally recommend bringing a surge protector)
- A MultiTool or leatherman
- Shower hooks and liner if your showers and bathtub don’t have doors
- Service member’s uniforms and uniform items (for all occasions)
- The sentimental items (basically the items you would be devastated if it was lost or broken)
Debateable- These are the items that some people prefer to take with them and some people prefer to buy onsite
- Shower liner and hooks
- Cleaning supplies
- Eating utensils (some just buy disposable)
- Plates (see above)
