Today I’m sharing my top list of the things to know about raising a preteen daughter so that you’re ready to handle this stage of parenthood.

Things to Know About Raising a Preteen Daughter

5 Important Things to Know About Raising A Preteen Daughter

1. New Independence

During this age, it’s completely normal for your daughter to start pulling away from family. Preteen daughters will start to test their independence. This will be confusing and difficult as they’ll still need you around and some days, yet other days they’ll seem to shut the door in your face to even having anything to do with them.

2. Quality Time

Even though your preteen daughter may be pushing you away, they still have things going on that should be discussed. While you won’t be able to force your preteen daughter to open up, and she probably won’t willingly open up like she used to, you can use this quality time to help your preteen daughter have a chance to ramble to you when you’re “hanging out” together.

3. Indirect Approach

You’ll have to use an indirect approach to almost everything while raising a preteen daughter. It may be that they’re not sure how to talk about something or that they’re just indecisive about something. During this stage of raising a preteen daughter, it’s best to ask indirect questions to get them to engage in sharing their thoughts about something.

4. Revisit Rules

Now that your daughter isn’t a “little kid” nor a “teenager,” yet it’s time to revisit some of the rules your now preteen daughter had previously. It may be worth it to let your preteen daughter have a little more space and freedom to make some of her own choices as you work to teach her what trust entails. This is a great way to encourage confidence and help keep your bond strong as a parent and daughter.

5. Relax on Judgment

Your preteen daughter is watching everything that you’re doing. They will know how you react to other people, how you treat them, and what you say about them. Be careful about being too judgmental during this stage in parenthood so that your preteen doesn’t start being mean to other kids. Also, relaxing on the judgment will help your preteen daughter tell you more about their peers and life in general.

There you have it, some things to know about raising a preteen daughter. Each of these tips should help you get along during this phase in parenthood. Raising a preteen is hard work, but most are starting to have hormone changes, but when it comes to preteen daughters, that can cause quite a difficult situation for parents of all preteen girls.
